Obligatory moment of recognition
Yes, it is September 11th. And that's all I can really say about it, because everyone else has already said everything that there is to say about it. Not trying to be flip, just gently insisting that you find your 9/11 commemorative reading elsewhere.
I'm heading to Beantown on Thursday for the weekend - suggestions anyone? Is the MFA worth a trip? I hear there's great shopping on Newbury Street from TK, and Rainster recommended Vox Populi for a decent martini. Anyone else?

And I am obviously biased, but I must recommend the MFA. Degas's Races at Longchamp, the Buddhist temple room, Mycerinus and His Queen, Gauguin's D'ou venons nous? and the claret jug, if it's out yet...I could go on.
Erica did a wonderful job with the Americans in Paris show and I love the view of Whistler's Mother and Madame X that you get when looking through the second gallery into the third and the juxtaposition of Madame X and Mrs. Henry White (hate the color in the first gallery, but that's getting picky). The Soviet Textiles exhibition is fascinating and I love the Laura McPhee show.
The MFA has the best Egyptian and Nubian collection in the US and a stronger American collection than the Metropolitan. It's also one of the largest and best encyclopedic museums in the US. Definitely worth a visit.

BS, I am very happy you replied! I told FG that you'd be able to help. (And I am also happy to note that I recommended all three of your restaurant picks!)

Thanks y'all! I've also been tasked with finding a place for late night dinner/take out near the Prudential Centre on Thursday night - can anyone save me from room service?

Other Side Cafe. Good food, funky clientele, cheap, and open late I believe. Or there seems to be a Spike's on Boylston St. Or I think Dillon's is good. More upscale, better dressed crowd. Or the place accross from Clio...that used to be Blue Cat Cafe, can't remember the new name, but it's on Mass. Ave. in between Commonwealth and Newbury.

I second Newbury Street for shopping.
My fondest memory of Newbury Street: my roommate and I, after four straight months in central Maine, walked into a shoe shop and saw the most beautiful guy in the world, sitting waiting for his gf to finish buying a pair of shoes. Literally. The. Most. Beautiful. Person. Ever. We just stopped, stared, and drooled. We couldn't figure out if it was that we'd been away from the city so long that anybody looked good, or that the guy really was that hot.
Hope you encounter him too! ;-)
