So true. NOTHING is worse than lugging my laundry to the machine, putting the quarters in, and the machine just sitting there. And then I get all confused until I realize that I used 3 US quarters and 1 Canadian.
Well, okay, there are worse things. Like puppies stuffed with heroin. But you know what I mean.
Canada owes nothign! It's all the fault of dishonest Americans! Once in college, the clerk at a check-out stand gave me a couple Canadian pennies as my change, and I when I pointed it out, she pretended not to hear me at first and then seemed ticked to have to give me coins with Lincoln's profile.
It's actually not just a problem in the States. In the last few years, Canadian quarters changed - maybe a bit slimmer, or lighter, or something - so that they don't work in the laundry machines here, either. So in our own country, with our own currency, we are condemned to lug twice as many quarters as necessary to the laundromat, or tip the machine 15 degrees backwards for added velocity as the coin goes in. Stupid!
Picture it, a slightly chilly morning on the African savannah, looking out over the rim of the coulee the sun just peeks out over the horizon, warm, glowing. Through the mist, a silhouette in the distance, just forming, tugs your breath right out of your chest. As it comes into focus, you know it is she. Beautiful, of course. Brilliant, to be sure. Poised, needless to say. And very, very well-dressed. You are in the fabulous girl's world, now.
